Kuster A-42 Zephyr

The Kuster A-42 Zephyr from Consonant Yachts is a unique vessel in which the sophisticated hull shape allows all the qualities of the Kuster to shine through. The curved surfaces give the vessel an elegant yet rugged appearance; the design is consistently focused on safety and comfort for the crew under all conditions. The entire vessel exudes craftsmanship and meticulous maintenance, featuring fresh paintwork and a beautiful teak interior finished with new upholstery.

The deck is thoughtfully and safely designed: a high-mounted stainless steel railing and strategically placed handrails provide confidence on deck, while wide gangways make mooring comfortable. Beautifully designed bollards provide excellent mooring options, and the foredeck is constructed so that any water running over it drains directly to the gangways. The Zephyr is equipped with a hydraulic anchor winch and high-mounted ventilation inlets for the engine compartment, details that further enhance safety and stability.

The open cockpit is generously proportioned and self-draining, which benefits both seaworthiness and storage space. From stern to bow, the cockpit offers plenty of storage options, making it easy to bring along bicycles. Built-in benches create a cozy atmosphere and provide extra storage space, and together with the cockpit cushions, they form a full-length seating/lounging area.A fold-down table tucks neatly into the floor, making dining al fresco a pleasure, while the well-designed canopy over the cockpit makes stepping out onto the gangway easier. The Kuster’s transom features an electric fold-down door that allows for easy boarding. The outside helm station is designed as a portable, wired console that can be moved for flexible cruising.

The interior of the wheelhouse and galley combines stylish details with practical functionality. The spacious galley against the aft bulkhead is fully equipped with two refrigerators, a combination microwave, sink, and a four-zone ceramic cooktop; a sturdy aluminum door and two large casement windows provide plenty of light and good ventilation. The starboard seating area with a large table seats five people and offers a panoramic view with ample handholds in rough seas. Beneath the saloon floor is the engine compartment, easily accessible via two large hatches; the Vetus Deutz 170 hp engine is neatly arranged and equipped with dual fuel filters and bilge pumps.

The owner’s cabin in the bow offers ample dressing space and a freestanding bed measuring 160 × 210 cm with a slatted base and thick mattresses, complemented by plenty of storage space, a laundry drawer, and a bookshelf against the bulkhead. The guest cabin, a box-bed-style space under the saloon floor and opposite the wet room, is generously and practically furnished. Between the owner’s cabin, the bathroom, and the guest cabin is a hallway featuring a lounge area, an armchair, storage space, a TV corner, and underfloor bottle storage; ventilation and natural light are plentiful thanks to three hinged portholes and an easily accessible emergency hatch. The bathroom is accessible from the hallway and offers standing headroom, a separate, lockable shower stall with a door and extra seating, a sink with vanity, and an electric toilet.

Technically, the Zephyr combines comfort and reliability: underfloor heating runs throughout the interior, and Vetus stabilizers provide extra comfort at sea. The engine compartment is easily accessible and clearly laid out, and there are spacious tanks for diesel, water, and greywater. Hydraulic systems operate the anchor, allow the mast to be lowered, and power both the bow and stern thrusters, which significantly facilitates sailing and maneuvering. Beneath the open cockpit and on the gangways are neatly maintained teak decks, giving the entire vessel a well-kept and stylish appearance.
