Farewell with 'pain in the heart', to completely renewed Aquanaut 750
It is with great pain in their hearts that Geart and his daughter Geartsje say goodbye to their Aquanaut 750. A very special motorboat, for many reasons. One of them is that the 750 - the first yacht model that Aquanaut brought to the market in the 60s - rarely goes on sale in such a modern and complete version. From 2019, 'Wâldpykje' got a full refit. Only the hull, engine and gearbox remain.
Geart himself worked at Aquanaut for thirty years. He started as foreman of the steel department, then manager and deputy director. Seven years ago, he said goodbye to the renowned yacht brand from Sneek. But Aquanaut is still in his heart and that of his family. They didn't have to think twice when they saw an Aquanaut 750 for sale around 2019.
"The idea was that the children would use the boat as a weekend boat," explains Geart. "We were initially going to fix it up a bit, but that got a bit out of hand. From 2019 to 2021, we gave the Aquanaut 750 a complete refit."

Completely rebuilt
The yacht was stripped completely bare, until only the hull, engine and Scatra gearbox remained. Together with son-in-law Bas, they then built the Aquanaut from scratch. Geart: "New wiring, new paneling made of HPL (which does not discolour and is scratch-free), new upholstery, new preservation system in 2 components, new windows, a new tent. Yes, what is actually not new?"
Geart also added a bow thruster, charger/inverter, LED lighting on remote control and solar panels to the ship. And he replaced the rubber bumper with a stainless steel version and widened the gangways. "In short, this ship is completely up to date again. Completely maintenance-free. There is no woodwork on it anymore, only plastic and stainless steel."

7.80 meters length overall
This boat, designed by Dick Boon of Vripack, excels on even more fronts. The Aquanaut has an overall length of almost 8 meters (including swimming platform), a shallow draft of 65 cm and a clearance height below 2.40 meters. "That makes it very agile and versatile. You can sail anywhere with it."
What is also striking is the large open cockpit. "When you put the tent down, it's actually a big sloop," says Geart. "But a very luxurious one, with a modern kitchen (with a gas on glass hob), sleeping places and a closed toilet. Another plus is the amount of windows in the front, which gives you a lot of light and a wide view of the outside."

Going on holiday together
This Aquanaut 750 is not the first refit that Geart has taken care of. He also has an 11-metre open cockpit Aquanaut called 'Wâldpyk', which he completely renewed. "Completely in the same color scheme and with the same accessories as the new 750," he explains. "When we went on holiday with both boats in the first year, we got nothing but positive reactions. Very special."

Farewell with pain in the heart
To their great regret, Geart and his daughter are now saying goodbye to the Aquanaut 750. "We have put a lot of energy and money into making him completely top," says Geart. "Geartsje did shed a tear when the decision was made. For my daughter, her husband and three children, the ship turns out to be just a bit too small to go on holiday with. A caravan turned out to be better for their situation. We now hope that other people will have a lot of fun with the Aquanaut 750."
